Dr. Logan Aunon

One of Logan’s favorite memories growing up was crafting fly fishing lures with his father in hopes to catch the biggest fish wherever the adventure led. Early on, he found an interest in creating with his hands. Whether it was tying fishing lures, strumming a guitar, painting, or playing Division I lacrosse, his dexterity and vision to create drove an exemplary skill level in all his pursuits. With a love for using his hands, partnered with a genuine interest in serving others, Logan was led to dentistry.

This desire to pursue serving others led Logan to Honduras on a medical mission trip to provide dental care in the rural city of Piñares. Here, Logan was given the opportunity to educate many children on the importance of brushing and flossing their teeth, as well as, provide the necessary supplies to support dental health. This experience solidified his dream to become a dentist and work alongside his father in the near future. With this goal, Logan began his pursuit to become a dentist. This ultimately led him to University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine, where he received a Presidential Excellence Scholarship in recognition of his potential to be an outstanding dentist. Logan was drawn to this specific dental school because of their exemplary clinical rotations throughout the whole state of Colorado. The year long rotations included firsthand experience with a homeless shelter in downtown Denver, an HIV clinic, a pediatric and geriatric Medicaid center, and rural clinics which provided dental care to low income families. During these rotations, he became competent in a wide variety of procedures including surgical extractions, esthetic restorations, crowns, root canal therapies, laser treatments, and hands on 3D scanning for implants.

His wife Taylor, whom he met while both playing Division I sports at University of Delaware, is a nurse practitioner at the Family Care Center of Mooresville. They enjoy playing beach volleyball and water sports together! With a well-versed academic experience and ample clinical opportunities, Logan is thrilled to serve the Lake Norman community and beyond. His passion for building relationships with his patients stems from a desire to understand each person individually in order to provide them the best possible care. He leads with empathy, kindness, and a willingness to treat each patient as he would treat his own family.“My goal is to not only provide my patients with exceptional dental care but to create a welcoming environment that allows them to have trust and comfort in our care. My ultimate desire is to positively influence our patients to confidently smile and spread their own happiness to others.”

Is Invisalign right for me?

Patients living with teeth that overlap or are crooked understand the toll it takes on their confidence. But did you know that misaligned teeth also affect your oral health?

When your teeth overlap, they’re harder to keep clean and floss, which can increase your risk for tooth decay and gum disease. Straightening your teeth will benefit both your confidence and your oral health. Invisalign offers patients the opportunity to straighten their teeth without having to use traditional metal braces. Aligners are made of clear plastic, which is invisible. Because they’re custom designed to fit snugly, they don’t interfere with your normal daily activities and they’re hardly noticeable to other people.

Aligners are easily removable, so they can be taken out for eating and brushing, which means you don’t have to change your diet or home care routine during your treatment. Invisalign also requires fewer visits to your dentist, which is ideal for busy schedules.

We can determine if Invisalign will suit your needs during an examination. 3-D technology allows us to show you exactly what your smile will look like when it’s completed before you even start treatment! Contact Cornelius Dentistry today to learn more about how Invisalign may be able to help you straighten your teeth with discretion.

Why do I need a crown, and not a filling?

Our goal at Cornelius Dentistry is to help you achieve and maintain a healthy and beautiful smile for a lifetime. Sometimes this requires restoring a tooth. Fillings are ideal for repairing the damage done by tooth decay. If your tooth sustains an injury, infection, lost restoration, or decay that’s bigger than a filling can handle, we’ll recommend a dental crown to repair your tooth.

A crown replaces your entire tooth, fitting over your remaining structure like a cap. We custom design it to provide excellent function and esthetics so it will complement your smile and you’ll be able to eat and chew with ease.

We can typically complete a crown in two appointments. At the first visit, we’ll prepare your tooth for your final restoration, and you’ll leave with a temporary crown to wear until the dental laboratory finishes your permanent crown. In 1 to 2 weeks, you’ll return to our office to have your final crown permanently placed.

How can I replace a missing tooth?

Dental implants are dentistry’s gold standard for replacing missing teeth, and at Cornelius Dentistry, we’re proud to offer comprehensive implant dentistry. This means that you can complete every aspect of your implant at our office – including the surgical placement of your implant, which is a procedure that many other dentists refer their patients out for.

Here’s how an implant works: First, we’ll place a titanium post into your jawbone that will take the place of your root. Titanium is biocompatible, so it will integrate naturally with your bone during a 3 to 5 month healing period and create a firm foundation for your new tooth.Next, once your implant is ready, we’ll customize a high-quality porcelain crown that will complement your smile while providing all the function you were used to with your natural tooth. You’ll find that you’re eating, chewing, talking, and smiling with confidence and ease again. You’ll also be able to brush and floss as you were used to, so your implant is easy to care for.

Dental implants are ideal for supporting dental prosthetics such as a bridge or full denture, allowing us to replace multiple missing teeth. In fact, dental implants offer denture wearers a more secure and stable fit than traditional dentures since there’s no movement or slippage when you talk or eat.Contact Cornelius Dentistry to learn more about your options for tooth replacement.

Are dental x-rays safe? Do I really need them?

X-rays are a critical tool that we use to determine if there are any concerns in your mouth internally. They’re important because they can help her detect issues such as tooth decay, infections, and gum disease in their earliest stages, which allows you to treat these concerns early with less invasive treatment procedures – before they hurt. We recommend that x-rays be taken at least once per year to monitor your oral health.

At Cornelius Dentistry, we’ve chosen to use digital x-rays because these are much safer for both our patients and the environment. Digital imaging emits 90% less radiation than x-rays used in the past, and they don’t require harsh chemicals for developing, making them less harmful to the environment. Digital x-rays are also readily available for review so the doctor can discuss your treatment needs with you right away. They offer a clearer image for a more accurate diagnosis. They’re also easy to share with other providers you’re working with, if necessary.

How often shoud I see the dentist?

At Cornelius Dentistry, we believe that consistent preventative care is truly the key to achieving and maintaining optimum oral health. For most patients, we recommend a cleaning and checkup every six months. Patients who are managing gum disease may need additional cleanings throughout the year to keep their condition at bay.

Regular checkups are important because we’ll screen you for concerns such as tooth decay, cavities, oral cancer, and periodontal (gum) disease. These issues are best treated in their earliest stages, which allows you the opportunity for a more successful recovery with less invasive treatment procedures.

Professional cleanings are important to eliminate the plaque buildup that contributes to issues like gum disease and tooth decay. Our hygienist will also teach you about the importance of your oral health and proper brushing and flossing techniques you can use at home to make the most of your home care routine.

If you do find yourself facing gum disease, our team is well equipped to help you manage your condition with deep cleanings and products to help support your home care routine. Our goal is to help you maintain your natural teeth for a lifetime, and preventative care is the first step.

When should my child first see the dentist?

We welcome children to Cornelius Dentistry, and we recommend that parents bring their children in for their first appointment around the age of 2 or 3 years old. We’ll ensure that your child feels comfortable and welcome at their first visit and every appointment thereafter.

During their first visit, we’ll spend time acclimating them to the “big chair” and the tools and instruments we use. We’ll also count and examine their teeth, which gives us an opportunity to make you aware of any developmental concerns we might see early on. As they get older and more comfortable at our office, we’ll incorporate cleanings into their visits.

For older children, we may recommend additional services such as dental sealants and fluoride treatments, which help build, strengthen, and protect teeth from decay.

If your child participates in sports, we’re happy to recommend the right protective wear for their teeth and mouth. Protective wear is important as sports injuries account for around 40% of dental emergencies. Custom mouth guards typically offer better protection than the generic guards found at the sporting goods store.
